Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity firmly The Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity firmly believes that its aims and objectives can be propagated widely & successfully through the visual, electronic media and the performing arts. These have greater impact on the minds of people than any other form of communication. The Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity therefore decided to recognize the contribution of “Performing Arts” in propagating the message of amity and national solidarity. The award accordingly has been named FANS “Award for Excellence in Performing Arts”. The first award was conferred on Mr. Prem Chopra on October 3, 2009 at Mumbai for his outstanding performance in the film- ‘Shaheed’ in which he played the role of ‘Sukhdev’, the freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country and played a major role in India’s struggle for independence. His exemplary performance of the role brought to reel life Sukhdev of the real life for the whole world to see the true example of patriotism and love for the country which made him fight against the British Rule. His portrayal of Sukhdev leaves a lasting impression and creates a fervor of patriotism.
